Privacy policy
ReadFluent
ReadFluent is a bilingual e-book reader for iPhone, iPhone Duo, and iPad. This policy describes what the app stores on your device and what it does not send to the developer.
Information stored on your device
ReadFluent keeps your library on the device. It does not upload that library to a server operated by the developer. The app stores:
- The EPUB file you import, in the app’s private storage.
- Details taken from that file, such as the title, author, cover, and language.
- The language you choose for translation.
- Your place in a book, saved as a position in the text so the reader can reopen it.
- Bookmarks, including a short excerpt of about 120 characters so you can recognize the passage.
- The page color you choose: warm white, sepia, or charcoal.
Deleting a book in the app removes that book, its file, and its bookmarks from the device. Deleting ReadFluent removes the library the app stored.
Translation
When you translate a page, ReadFluent gives that page’s text to Apple’s Translation framework. Apple documents this framework as translating on the device. Apple may collect usage and performance information about the request, including the app identifier and the source and target languages. Apple states that this information does not include the original text or the translation.
If a language is not already installed, the system may ask you to download it. Apple handles that download. ReadFluent does not run its own translation service.
What the app does not do
- It does not create an account, and it does not ask for your name, email, or contacts.
- It does not include advertising or a third-party analytics service.
- It does not sell or share your library with the developer.
- It does not sync your library through iCloud. The on-device store is not connected to CloudKit.
Diagnostics
ReadFluent writes short diagnostic messages to the system log, such as whether a book imported or a page could not be translated. Those messages are not given the book text, a selected passage, notes, or your reading history. The developer does not receive them. If you turn on Apple’s diagnostics sharing in iOS Settings, Apple’s own policy applies to what you send to Apple.
Children
ReadFluent is not directed at children under 13, and it does not ask for an account or a profile.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
